Taking a swing at the discomfort around the dualism of gender.

In our society where it is said, "men should always be brave, aggressive, and confident" and "women should always be humble, submissive, and ashamed," we are faced with a dualistic view of men and women. This issue questions such old-fashioned gender norms from a variety of angles. The program introduces the efforts of queers, musicians, transgender porn divas, and other activists and creators who are confronting gender issues in Japan and abroad.

Special highlights include trans drag queen Allanah Starr and a web-based survey on "gender dysphoria" with 164 responses from our readers.

(This issue was first published in October 2020 and was revised in May 2023. It retains the planning of the first while reconsidering the use of language and appropriate expressions in response to historical events.)
